Deliveroo UK Rider Support

What's covered by Deliveroo insurance?

Deliveroo provides insurance for eligible riders in the UK. The cover available depends on the type of claim and whether you meet the policy requirements.

Rider accident insurance

For personal accident claims, cover applies from the time you accept a delivery request in the Deliveroo app until the delivery is completed or cancelled in the app, plus 15 minutes after completion or cancellation. Cover starts again when you accept another delivery request.

Personal accident insurance may include benefits for death, permanent disability, funeral expenses, accident medical expenses, dental expenses and hospitalisation, depending on the circumstances of the claim and the policy terms.

This cover applies to eligible riders and substitute riders.

Support if you are unable to ride due to an accident

If you are temporarily unable to provide services because of an accident that happens while you are covered by the policy, you may be eligible for earnings support.

  • For riders, the benefit is 75% of average daily earnings, up to £50 per day, for up to 30 days. Average daily earnings are based on your Deliveroo earnings in the 60 days before the accident.
  • For substitute riders, the benefit is 75% of average daily earnings, up to £25 per day, for up to 17 days.

A 7 day waiting period applies. If you are unable to provide services for more than 7 consecutive days because of your accident, earnings support is payable from the first day you were unable to provide services. No payment is made if you are unable to provide services for less than 7 days

Support if you are unable to ride because of sickness

Eligible riders may be able to claim earnings support if they are temporarily unable to work because of sickness.

To be eligible, you must have completed at least 30 deliveries for Deliveroo during the 8 weeks before the sickness.

  • The benefit is 75% of average daily earnings, up to £50 per day, for up to 30 days. Average daily earnings are based on your Deliveroo earnings in the 60 days before the sickness.
  • A 7 day waiting period applies. If you are unable to work for more than 7 consecutive days because of sickness, earnings support is payable from the first day you are unable to work. No payment is made if you are unable to work for less than 7 days.

Sickness claims are limited to a maximum of two claims in any 12 month period. Sickness cover does not apply to substitute riders.

New parent payment

Eligible riders may be able to claim a one-off payment after the birth, stillbirth or adoption of a child. The amount depends on how many deliveries you completed in the 6 months before the date of childbirth, stillbirth or adoption.

You may be eligible for:

  • £250 if you completed more than 175 deliveries as the birthing parent of the child, or more than 250 deliveries if you are the non-birthing parent
  • £500 if you completed more than 350 deliveries as the birthing parent of the child, or more than 500 deliveries if you are the non-birthing parent
  • £1,000 if you completed more than 700 deliveries as the birthing parent of the child, or more than 1,000 deliveries if you are the non-birthing parent

You must also have entered into an agreement with Deliveroo to provide delivery services, and your first delivery must have been completed at least 41 weeks before the expected date of childbirth, or at least 41 weeks before the granting of an Adoption Order or equivalent document.

Only one new parent claim can be paid to an insured person in any 12-month period.

New parent cover does not apply to substitute riders.

Rider public liability

Public liability insurance can provide cover if you cause injury to someone else, or damage someone else’s property, while providing services to Deliveroo and you are legally responsible.

This cover applies to eligible riders and anyone authorised to work using your account as a substitute, where the policy terms are met.

It can cover cyclists and walkers while working. It can also cover scooter and car riders when they’re off-vehicle, for example when walking to pick up or deliver an order.

This cover does not replace any vehicle insurance you are legally required to hold. If you ride a scooter or drive a car, you still need valid motor insurance, including cover for food delivery work.

What's not covered?

You must be legally permitted to work in the United Kingdom to be covered.

Personal accident cover does not apply to an accident that happens while you are carrying out delivery or transportation services for another provider, or to a delivery that is not recorded in the Deliveroo app.

Scooter and car riders still need third-party liability insurance for their vehicle, as well as food delivery insurance, as required by law.

Your own vehicle and other items of kit are not covered by this insurance.
