Staying safe while riding during Halloween
If you’re planning to ride on or around Halloween (31 October), you might notice more people out and about than usual.
No matter which kind of vehicle you’re using to deliver, here are a few tips to help you stay safe:
Stay visible, stay seen
With the evenings getting darker, visibility is especially important. Before heading out, it’s worth checking that your lights are working. You might also want to consider wearing bright or reflective clothing (like a Deliveroo Rider jacket) to help other road users and people spot you.
Keep an extra eye out for people walking around
Halloween brings more pedestrians to residential areas, including children who may be excited, distracted or wearing costumes that make it harder for them to see and hear what’s around them. Staying alert and leaving plenty of space when passing pedestrians, particularly children, can help to keep all road users safe.
Stay focused
Keep your attention on the road while you’re moving. If you need to check the Rider app, directions for an order, or simply have a snack, finding somewhere safe to stop first prevents you from losing focus on the road. Remember, it’s illegal to use a mobile phone while driving.
Take it steady
It might be hard to see everyone, since it may be dark or people could be wearing darkly coloured costumes. Giving yourself plenty of time and taking extra care when riding through busy or poorly lit streets can give you more time to react if someone unexpectedly steps into the road.
Have a safe Halloween!
Halloween is a great time to deliver. By using these suggestions, you can help play a part in keeping all road-users and people safe this Halloween.
