Even though Pride month has come to a close, we're celebrating the diverse stories, experiences and perspectives that contribute to our rider community.
We spoke to Simon about what Pride and the rider community means to him, how riding fits seamlessly alongside his goals and ambitions, and why kindness can make all the difference.
Riding and reaping the benefits
Having worked across hospitality and broadcast production, Simon has built a career that's anything but conventional. From welcoming VIP guests to directing live television, he’s taken on a wide variety of roles while riding with Deliveroo, reaping the benefits of the flexibility we offer. For Simon, riding with Deliveroo has given him the flexibility to fit delivering around his ambition, while deciding what his next exciting adventure will be.
Every day is different
Riding with Deliveroo brings something new each and every day, whether that’s meeting new people or simply making someone’s day a little bit easier.
"What I enjoy most about being a rider is the freedom," Simon told us. "You’re out in the city, moving, meeting people. There’s also something satisfying about knowing you’re helping someone have a better day - whether that’s delivering a comfort meal or just saving them a trip out. There are a lot of people who rely on us.”
Community spirit - we’re all in this together
Being a part of the Rider community means so much more than people might expect. On the road, there’s plenty of opportunity to recognise familiar faces at local restaurants and stop for chats with other riders while waiting for orders.
“There’s a shared understanding—whether it’s a quick nod at a restaurant, swapping stories while waiting for an order, or helping each other out,” Simon explains. “There’s a real sense of “we’re all in this together,” especially on those busy or rainy days.”
What Pride means to Simon
“Pride, for me, is about visibility, acceptance, and just being able to exist as yourself without second-guessing it. It’s also a moment to celebrate how far things have come, while recognising there’s still more to do. On a personal level, it’s about feeling comfortable in your own skin and not having to edit who you are depending on the space you’re in.”

“If there’s one thing I’d want fellow riders to know, it’s that everyone’s got their own story behind the helmet.”
“You never really know what someone’s balancing alongside riding, whether it’s career changes, personal challenges, or big ambitions. A bit of kindness and respect goes a long way out here.”
